Donate to Downtown Sparrow
We have 3 donation streams available (maintenance, information, and research) so you can choose where your money goes. There’s more information below about the 3 streams. We currently only accept donations by e-Transfer through your online banking portal. Please send your e-Transfer to donate@downtownsparrow.ca.
When sending your e-Transfer please indicate what stream you would like your money to go to in the description field of the e-Transfer (see the descriptions of the 3 donation streams below). If we need clarification, we’ll reach out to you by email.
More about the 3 donation streams
Just so we’re clear up front, the site editor does not earn any money from Downtown Sparrow and we are committed to keeping this site free of advertising.
Maintenance – this pays to keep the site going on a basic level. We need to raise about $250-500 per year to keep things running (including paying ourselves back for the costs we incurred to set this up in 2020). We have raised $525.00 in this stream to date. We have spent $365.74 in this stream to date and have $159.26 remaining.
Information – this stream has been set up to provide a modest pool to file Freedom of Information requests on behalf of Hamiltonians. Donating to this stream means that anyone can come to the site, ask for a reasonable FOI to be filed, and Downtown Sparrow will pay for the filing fee and will publish the results. We expect that we might get about 20 of these a year so are aiming for around $100-250 to get us going. Some FOI requests ask for costs in order to produce records so it might end up being more than the $5.00 filing fee. We have raised $95.00 in this stream to date. We have spent $5.00 in this stream to date and have $90.00 remaining.
Research and Writing – this stream will allow us to pay community members to do research and write articles. We have raised $580.00 in this stream to date. We have spent $300.00 in this stream to date and have $280.00 remaining.
In total we have raised $1,250.00 to date from all 3 streams, have spent $670.74, and have $579.26 remaining.
