Map of Light Rail Transit and City Property
Now that Hamilton’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project has been approved, there are discussions about the development of housing along the LRT line. As part of those discussions, the Hamilton Community Benefits Network (HCBN), and others, have been pushing for affordable housing to be part of that development.
This map uses City of Hamilton data to display the most suitable City-owned properties, within 500 metres* of the LRT line, that could be developed into affordable housing.
The map displays 21 properties (of the many hundreds owned by the City), most of which are municipal parking lots, and provides Google Maps links to their specific locations and 2 pictures for each property –
- A picture of the site location from Google Maps, to provide visual context
- A picture of a comparable building in Hamilton from affordable housing developer Indwell to display what could potentially be built on the site
*The distance of 500 metres was chosen based on generally accepted standards for walkability.
